They're basic human nature, really.
My problem is with specific liberal goals and policies.
The Left wants what they've wanted for ninety years in this country: an immensely powerful centralized government, controlling the economy and everything else, with them in permanent charge of it.
I have yet to see any Democratic/liberal policy or idea addressing any issue that does not ratchet this country another step in that direction. More power, wealth, and control to the State, more power to the Democratic Party. Go ahead, try to think of one (no one has ever stepped up to this).
Conservatives (at least real ones) support small, decentralized government, lower taxes, more power falling to state and local authorities, and ultimately the most power to individuals. Some people call this "fascism," which has to be one of the biggest intellectual whiplashes I've ever seen.
