...is the sentiment that most Americans don't like the direction the country is heading. Conservatives make a terrific and arrogant mistake by believing that the majority of Americans support their agenda. Most Americans are centrists with moderate political views and values. The public's negative reaction to the GOP's pandering to the religious right in the Schiavo matter is illustrative of this. The American public has its limits and its plausible that they think the GOP has exceeded them. Certainly the dissatisfaction with the administration's handling of the Iraq war is another example of this. Republicans would be well served to move their politics back to the political center if they hope to hold on to Congress.
