re: And by the way...

Not really, it's clear enough from the reading excerpt that the sisters are involved in something called "tennis". Even if it used the names Yoda and Mace Windu, it would read the same, the names of the players aren't necessary to reason out the answer.

What you do need to know is that "doubles" in tennis involves playing in a pair against another pair. There's nothing in the reading excerpt itself that tells you what the answer is. It only says they met for the first time "in a tournament finals", so you can't even rule out the "against each other" answer. Playing as two pairs proably sounds more reasonable than with two balls at once, but not definitive.

Do all 8 year olds know that "doubles tennis" means you are playing as two pairs? If what the question is designed to get at is reading comprehension or analytic skills, that's a very poor way to set it up. Likewise, if you know nothing, you might assume that "country clubs" is a reasonable answer to the second question -- maybe you go to country clubs to play tennis.

You used to see lots of questions like this on standardized tests. In the 1960s, a standard SAT analogy was:

"Harvard is to Yale as...." with the correct answer being "crimson is to blue", out of a set of five color pair choices.
