Puzzling - "China map lays claim to Americas"

"A map due to be unveiled in Beijing and London next week may lend weight to a theory a Chinese admiral discovered America before Christopher Columbus."

Now, don't they think the folks actually living here might have discovered the place? How come those guys always get forgotten in the Chinese - Spanish - Norwegian claims?

Probably, of all folks, Russians. Discovered the place. Moved in. Called it "home". Wandered all over the area. Built houses, temples, forts, yurts, made tools, raised children. Waved to the Chinese, Norwegians, Spanish, et al. That sort of thing.

In fact, Christopher Columbus documented there were folks here waving to him. How could he "discover" America any more than a visiting Italian could "discover" Safeway?

The map would be interesting, but the claims seem silly.
