The thirst for space
Mike Mullane admits astronauts want so much to go to space they won't point to safety problems even if they're aware of them.
His first flight had a launch abort ! First one in the shuttle program; his second flight had the most damage on tiles and his third flight...well all I know is that it was the most inclined one (62 degrees)...a military flight too.
