Before Armstrong became a astronaut, he was a civilian test pilot for NASA flying the X15.
One day, Neil and Chuck Yeager were in the same T33 plane (Neil in the front) and the plane made a touch and go on the desert then under Chuck's advice, landed again on a dangerously wet terrain and the wheels got buried glueing the plane to the desert. Yeager burst out laughing (the airforce pilots didn't like the civilian pilots too well). According to the various biographies , the same event doesn't match...The first man to cross the soundbarrier and the first man on the Moon, flying together and with this difficult relationship....Had Chuck known what Neil was going to become.....
But of course, that's fate...
