Wow, talk about misreading a headline. I spent a moment thinking, "How did Tombaugh say something about New Horizons, he's dead!"
Anyway, and to think I was sad they didn't include an information plaque on the spacecraft. Forget a plaque, they sent a person! Clyde Tombaugh will, in all likelihood, be the first human being to (in part) leave our solar system.(*) That's pretty cool!
I am slightly creeped out that including someone's remains now seems to be SOP for planetary probes. Will Congress start selling the rights? What if someday the battlecruiser of Korg the Galactic Menace scoops up New Horizons and reconstitutes poor Clyde from fragmentary DNA? "Send this puny human to the Agony Booth until he reveals his planetary defenses! Arrrr!"
(*) If partial remains count, then I suppose there are bound to be some technicians' skin cells and hair fragments on the Pioneers and Voyagers, but I'll still give the nod to Clyde.
