re: Follow-ups

Hi Nick,

Even if we did get "lucky in the only universe there ever was and ever will be...(and) we (are) a statistically unimportant sample from a wide range of possible outcomes."

Doesn't the size of the universe we are in lead one to believe that there is life on other planets and/or moons, (I'm not saying the cosmos is "life friendly") and the sheer vastness of the universe is the only thing preventing our discovery of its existence. To me it's not a religious question, but a question regarding one's comprehension of the size of the universe. The size, and therefore the opportunities for life to take hold are almost innumerable.

Nonetheless, a sweet quote from the article:

The inescapable implication of the Selfish Biocosm hypothesis is that the immense saga of biological evolution on Earth is one tiny chapter in an ageless tale of the struggle of the creative force of life against the disintegrative acid of entropy, of emergent order against encroaching chaos, and ultimately of the heroic power of mind against the brute intransigence of lifeless matter.
