You'd have to see what she did away from them.

"Stockholm syndrome" isn't exhibited with a gun at your head. That's survival.

Strange things happen to people when they go from citizens with rights, whose life means something, who can count on the help of everyone around, a person, to

someone whose life has become worthless to others, in the control of people who would just as soon kill you as walk around you, and may have more to gain by killing you than letting you live.

That's why terrorists often kill someone early on, to control others with a demonstration of how worthless their lives have become.

Haven't been in the situation myself, have interviewed people who were. Don't want to be in the situation. It's easy to think I'd be brave, strong, and not take much shit. That's all intellectual.

There is no doubt in my mind that I'd react just like everyone else does emotionally. Everyone. Freeze, sort it out, become angry, and then as reality sinks in feel despair, and try to manipulate the situation to my benefit. I hope that some knowledge of what was happening might help, but I wouldn't bet on it. We're all little children under enough stress.

I dated a stewardess for UAL for a while in the '80s. She said they'd been instructed to do anything terrorists ordered. Anything.

As if they had a choice.
