"The White House is defiant in defense of warrantless wiretaps. That stance is beginning to bug Congress."

The White House is actively pursuing people who "outed" an illegal act, while stonewalling an investigation of it's own officials who outed a covert CIA agent.

GWB has the legal ability to imprison anyone he wants for as long as he wants, secretly. No legal representation, and a felony offence to even talk about a particular imprisonment. The chilling effect of that is enormous.

Clearly, their action indicates the wiretaps they are concerned with were NOT of marginally justifiable terrorism suspects but of a far more embarrassing nature. What that may be can only be suspected so far. I believe there is more here than meets the eye. Much more. And it's of a significant nature.

"Domestic eavesdropping probe widens,
Investigation centers on who leaked program to press, paper reports,"

"It said an FBI team had questioned employees at the FBI, the National Security Agency, the Justice Department, the CIA and the office of the Director of National Intelligence, and that prosecutors had taken steps to activate a grand jury.

"President Bush has condemned the leak as a ”shameful act” and CIA Director Porter Goss told a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Feb. 2:

“It is my aim, and it is my hope that we will witness a grand jury investigation with reporters present being asked to reveal who is leaking this information.”
