Geek Speak » in reply to Borland to flog it's IDE line

"Look on my works, oh ye mighty, and despair!"

That company's spent more time dying than it ever spent thriving. It's a miracle that they've hung on by their fingernails for so many years.

Back around 2000 a friend worked in their QA department. They were refusing to sign off on a new release of the IDE, it was so full of bugs, so management called a meeting and laid it on the line: Release the IDE and collect a few more paychecks; or stand by their judgment and fold the tents and go home.

Naturally, they released the product, bugs and all. That was one classic sign of a company on a death-spiral, yet it's a spiral at a glacial pace. Go figure.

To not be unremittingly negative, I do have fond memories of learning C and then C++, and trying out Pascal, on Borland products. They once were a really fine company, back in the giddy days of Phillipe Kahn.
