a note on tidal forces

If M87 could be used for comparison -

radial velocity gradient is about 1100 km/sec (from doppler shift results)

However this doesn't seem to directly bear on tidal forces experienced by an object orbiting the central black hole. The size of the black hole seems to determine this and apparently supermassive black holes aren't too severe.
