What's happening in Afghanistan is not surprising, and probably is more of a reflection on increased support from Iran's new regime than anything else.
There's a much larger and more serious picture, as the full Maples testimony discusses.
Regardless of any leftist fantasies, someone besides Bush would be facing most of these same problems, unless you assume they would never have attacked Afghanistan in the first place.
