Ion engines might not live up to expectations

Deep Space 1 and Smart-1 have worked well, AFAIK, but Dawn and Hayabusa have problems or are cancelled, and Bepi-Colombo keeps getting postponed.

I don't know of any other ion engine proposals on the books...
