re: Greenhouse Theory Smashed By Biggest Stone

hank you for that info. This is a confusing subject, since in my understanding, sometimes the greenhouse gases reflect the sunlight and reduce heat entering earth's atmosphere and other times the gases insulate the atmosphere and keep the heat circulating within it. I hope that's right?"

That's correct.

"It is really frightening to consider that natural events have produced far more of the stuff than man has to date. Especially when you consider the amount of man made CFC's released into the atmosphere daily. I have no idea what that specific amount is, but according to your post, all combined man-made greenhouse gases are far less than the single Krakatoa eruption."

I didn't mean to say that. Let me be clear: the Krakatoa eruption in terms of CO2 emission is insignificant in comparsion to total CO2 emission of human activity. My point was that Krakatoa produced an effect on Earth climate that was much more easily measurable [though if the same event happen today we would be able to more precisely measure it's affect as compared to our capablity back in 1880's] than compared with our ability to detect any effect of CO2 emission from human activity. Krakatoa affected Earth climate by transporting enormous amount of dust into the high atmosphere. If you web search "nuclear winter" you might get some more data about this affect.

"So, if this eruption hadn't have happened, would the earth be even warmer currently, had it not already been abnormally cool at the start of the industrial revolution?"

No I don't think so- my main point was it was a much bigger event than Tunguska. But since you on the topic, I think the Little Ice Age probably does have to do with our current measured warming tread.
