FBC does not work for outer planet missions - besides, if you are
going to send a robot probe to a distant, hostile alien world, do it
right or don't bother at all.

And regarding the recent events with NASA HQ, here's my silly question
of the day: Were any actual planetary mission SCIENTISTS involved in
the budget process? Or would that have just made sense?

Bean counters killing progress once again all in the name of supposedly
saving money. That's what Reagan's budget advisor thought he was
doing in 1981 when he threatened to shut off Voyager 2 after its flyby
of Saturn. If he had, the only missions we have ever had would have
left Uranus and Neptune still unexplored.
