ABSTRACT
The equations of motion for the propagation of photons in curved spacetime are applied to the
Kerr geometry to create a model of photon behavior near spinning, uncharged black holes. Photon
trajectories are traced back in time from a "detector" - a Cartesian grid of positions and momenta -
to their point of emission in the plane of a disk around a black hole. Pictures demonstrating the
relativistic effects of spacetime curvature on photon paths are presented and discussed.
