its too bad that GHW felt compelled to give in to opinion polls and raise taxes...Oh wait...That was another time and another place...

Public opinion is often wrong. Sometimes, taking a stand is a better political move, even though the stand itself is unpopular.

Poll driven politicians are easily driven from office.
