Where it is quite normal to lie, cheat, steal, murder, rape or whatever, as long as you can get away with it. And bystanders do not raise an eyebrow except where their personal involvement might be threatened. Or where bystanders might have an interest in watching what takes place only for their amusement. And the consumers don't raise an eyebrow, either.
Now I hate being preached to, when I'm trying to be amused. So I do not recommend that the Christian Family Council start writing comics and cartoons and video games. On the other hand, you could make a case that the media I described above is preaching a bit too.
I really don't think they portrayed a nihilistic society in those golden age/silver age comics. Or if they did, it was clear that these bad actors were not normal folk. They do it a lot now.
