The old comics that were objectionable...
were mainly the EC publisher that did "Tales From The Crypt" et al.
They were edgy but nothing compared to the slice and slash media today.
I tend to doubt that media creates monsters that wouldn't have been otherwise, but I could be totally wrong. Best for me to stand and watch with my opinion being nothing more than just that.
I am not an anime fan and I am unfamiliar with Gantz. It is hard for me to imagine the anime style molding anyone's personality.
As I said above that's just me.
