What options do we have in regards to Iran's apparent desire to acquire nuclear weapons?
If Iran is acquiring nuclear weapons how important is this.

Could be that acquiring nuclear weapons is far less important to Iran than the threat of a
democratic and prosperous Iraq. Could this whole nuclear crisis be *mostly* a distraction/smokescreen
to distract the world from Iran's effort keep Iraq destablized? It's well known that Iranian is involved
in fighting a covert war against Iraq.
Other than the delay in Iraq forming it's govt [big problem at moment] it seems like if Iran is trying to thwart
Iraq, then Iran is failing to be very effective in this regard. Iran also appears to losing in regards to Lebanon & Syria.
And does Hamas really have problem with funds- sure they are Sunni, but it seems that if Iran would want to support
it, if they really want to get rid of Israel.
One problem with viewing an enemy is it seems one has tendency to believe that the enemy isn't making mistakes. Maybe all this talk by this regime of it making nuclear material is just hype.

But suppose Iran proves that it has nukes by setting off a nuke. Or what happens if for some other reason we come to the conclusion that Iran is making nukes. What are the options?
What is more important. That Iran has a nuke. Or that Iran violated international law in regard to the NPT.
Here is one option, we could make some kind of international agreement that protects NPT countries which are nuked which says that any NPT country which has violated it's agreement and acquired nukes will be special target for nuclear
counter attack. Simple example Iran fires a missile with nuclear warhead and blows up some NPT city. Members this agreement would as result nuke Iran. That's pretty easy. But what happens if a NPT country is nuked by an unknown source [e.g. terrorists]. In this case one has a short list of countries who has violated NPT and don't have safeguards that prevent terrorists from getting nukes. Well, we only have two countries N Korea and Iran, so you could nuke both of these countries. Now, if the US were to have a terrorists/undefined source nuke attack, that result would *probably* be we would nuke whatever country we thought was responsible [Iran or N korea OR both]. But NPT without nukes don't have this option- therefore can be more easily threaten.
