"But understand this, I'm not talking about the politics now. It?s far too late to debate that, we?re there, we?re far too inextricably involved to cut and run. Now we as a nation are committed to fixing the mess as best we can."
Actually I'm of the mind that we are *almost* at the point in which you should begin talking about getting out of Iraq. But I think it is, at present time frame, best if new permanent Iraq govt brings this topic up. But if they don't, I think we could wait another 6 months before needing to address it [and forcing the Iraqi gov to address the issue].
In other words I think this should the first & top priority of new govt, but perhaps the govt will want to delay the matter because they think there are other priorities they need to address first.
I don't think the Iran problem should encourage us to delay getting out of Iraq- the main reason being that this issue regarding Iran could continue until Bush leaves office & I think Bush should get out of Iraq before the end of his term. Now, it would nice to have some permanent agreement [regarding security matters] with Iraq before Bush leaves office, but the nature of this is dependent upon current Iraqi politics evolves and the Iraqi leadership.
