The laser techniques are the greatest thing for ground based astronomy since adaptive optics....
ALL big ground based scopes will have lasers in the future... Laser guide stars expand what we can look at with adaptive optics nearly 2 orders of magnitude in sky conerage. In our last laser run we looked at things that ranged in distance from light hours to billions of light years away...
The BIG scopes will have multiple lasers- it will be quite a light show.
