Eta Aquarid meteor shower... a report...

On Wednesday night we were doing a laser run... we were short an airplane spotter, so I had to go out a couple of times and stand outside looking for planes approaching the beam... I saw no planes, but I saw a lot of meteors... in the 1 hour I was outside I directly saw about a dozen of them and glimpsed many more out of the corner of my eye. Most were just small fast little streaks, but some were pretty good, with visible trails... Anyway, it was a nice display and the peak occurs tomorrow... The odd thing is, I really couldn't determine a radiant, the direction of the meteorite trails seemed fairly random... but I saw a larger number of meteors than is typical from my experience.

This might be one shower worth staying up for... just a heads up...

The Eta Aquarid meteor shower is thought to be debris from Halley's comet, and was first discovered in 1870: http://comets.amsmeteors.org/meteors/showers/eta_aquaridhistory.html
