Nitrogen is so unreactive that something rather unusual
like lightning or enzymes from a living system is necessary to make it combine. I have never heard of lightning on Mars. Organic nitrogen (organic amines, amino-acids, cyclic nitrogen compounds) in significant quantities would be almost the "smoking gun" of life. Such compounds COULDbe formed by other means, but my money would be on life.
