I hope this is a "real" theory as opposed to wishful thinking on the
parts of some people who long for the days of a Universe that is
closed and will recreate itself again in a new Big Bang - unlike the
current less pleasant evidence that the Universe is expanding faster
and faster and will eventually leave a cold, lifeless, empty existence
in the far, far, far future.

I recall an article from Scientific American shortly after the 1965
confirmation of the cosmic background noise from the Big Bang where
the author longed for the days of the Steady State Universe, which
existed since forever and matter kept on being made forever - rather
than the Big Bang, which implied an actual start to the Universe and
other unscientific implications.

But we know that human beings would never try to put their
preconceived notions on the way things actually are in the Cosmos.
