Like the last few weren't?
It isn't dirty politics if it's true.
Democrats lose elections whenever they get honest about their goals. Democrats win elections when they pretend to be Republicans.
I've been watching the liberal "wish lists," both from informal Democratic Party sources and widely read liberal blogs.
Let me sum it up:
1) Destroy the Bush Administration. By hook or by crook.
2) Raise taxes
3) Increase spending on various programs. Including universal health care.
4) Obliterate the alternative media ("Fairness" Doctrine, with teeth this time)
5) Pull out of Iraq
There are probably a lot of people who think these are great ideas. But not enough of them to win elections. The Democrats are supposedly coming out with an official set of goals sometime in June. We'll see how closely the lists match.
From the article:
Right now, an impressive 55 percent of voters say they have a favorable view of the Democrats, one of the party’s best ratings in years. But the favorables of leading national Democrats are weak: 34 percent for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton; 26 percent for Sen. John Kerry; 28 percent for former vice president Al Gore. The bottom line: as long as the Democrats remain a generic, faceless alternative, they win; Rove’s aim is to paint his version of their portrait.
The man is missing the "bottom line" entirely. The minute a specific Democrat steps up to the plate, instead of the "generic" Democrat, the voters run screaming into the night. These poll numbers are current, not something taken after Rove has done his "dirty work." And sooner or later, the party does have to pick a candidate, don't they?
