Aircraft will have a tougher time during an oil crisis, because they are already designed for minimum fuel consumption. Cars aren't.

Rule #2: Reduce the drag.
Rule #3: Use minimum power.
Rule #4: Use climb/flight/descent patterns that minimize fuel consumption.
Rule #5: Don't touch the ground. :-)
