re: Cut the BS Tom

If you've got a way to print up Clone Troopers that I haven't heard about, let me know. Otherwise, can we get past the "dump another 100,000 troops into Iraq" bit?

Can you answer the famous "what would Kerry have done?" question?

Yes, I'll keep bringing up Saddam, for as long as the anti-war people keep trying to sweep him under the rug. Saddam's atrocities didn't usually make the papers. In fact, CNN deliberately avoided news stories on them to maintain their access.

As for the news article I was talking about? We're being played. Tell me who the "middle class" or "upper middle class" was under Saddam. Shittes? Kurds? Marsh Arabs? If I wrote a story about the "middle class" fleeing South Africa after apartheid fell, and added no other details, would you figure out what I was leaving out of the story, and why? Did you bother to wonder why the destination for a lot of these people is Syria?

And one last thing. It's a goddam WAR. To hopefully change a tyranny into something else. I'm astounded at the number of people who seem to think that unless the birth of nation is painless and blood-free that it should be considered a failure.

Think about this: Had Hitler won WWII, if Britain and the Soviets had decided, like France, that surrender was better than bloody war, it's almost certain that the number of people killed between 1939 and now in those regions would have been far, far smaller. How many French soldiers and civilians died from German military action prior to the fall of Paris?

Iraq has a chance to be a better place to live in coming years. With Saddam, tyranny was a certainty.
