re: Story on Iran's "badges" doubtful

Not a comment on your post, Tom, I have no knowledge or interest in this question, but on your obvious use of the Net to quickly research an issue. Like all sources, even the stacks of a university library, there is so much contradictory information. But published data is often self-referential and commented on directly by writers who have had time to establish a reputation for accuracy.

Imagine if you were an intelligent, English-reading alien with no direct experience on Earth, who wanted to research UFOs, or psychic phenomena, or the Kennedy assassination or the Face on Mars. How could he possibly make sense of the avalanche of contradictory data available online? Without prior knowledge or plenty of training in research methods, even the Bermuda triangle would seem reasonable.

Any hints on keeping it all straight? I have come to the point where I'm starting to feel online research is pointless because Google can lead you wherever you want to go.
