Not sure how long it will take but it will be here before FTL I'll bet and there will be major ethical considerations
I doubt that it will be universally available for centuries but there may be some that are alive today or will be born soon who will be around for several centuries.
It will be interesting. Some say people may tire of life but I think not. No doubt the concept of time will change and those priviliged to live indefinitely might seem to be very deliberate to those still living a normal span.
In my own case, as I grow old, I find that years pass as quickly as months when I was a boy or young man. To wait a week or a month seemed an eternity and it's now a brief delay. My change in perception only involves a half century. Imagine the perception of a human that has lived 4-5 centuries.
I have often thought that as our health and longevity increase the universe will finally open up for us and a trip of a hundred light years will be like a weekend cruise. It is certainly less problematic than E=MC2.
