"There is a permanent climate of fear."

Thanks Raoul. Americans are so smug to think they know exactly what's good for that "heathen" population. Our cultural insensitivity is similair to some on these board, who defend our leaders no matter how bad their faux-pas.

>"The population does not feel respected. ....(America) carries in it the hopes of the democracy but it does not hold account of local specificities and wants above all to impose its vision of the world."

I saw all that coming. Going into Bagdad was reasonably easy with our firepower. Staying the course to find out who was "with us or against us" at the point of a gun has turned out to be the $64 billion dollar question.
Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfelds' question.

I saw the Dixie Chicks on Larry King Live last night , defending themselves as Americans and their right to speak out. (They are a very popular and talented country music trio who play over a dozen instruments and sing with beautiful harmonies). Their lead singer spoke out against George Bush publicly just before a UK concert just before the war and they were dishonered here in the US. They had death threats, were banned by country music stations, had their CD's taken off the shelves, and people would protest outside their concerts. They were called traitors, sluts, "Sadam's Angels" and more. One member described how she remembers seeing the mother of a little 2 year old boy encouraging her daughter to stomp one of their CD's outside their concert as hateful revenge for the lead singers comments.

This is our own quagmire. The singer expressed shock and disbelief that this was happening in America. What country was she in where a mother could teach such a young boy to HATE?? I mean, where does that come from?
George Bush's jingoisms. And the climate of fear and intimidation he bandied about here in the US and the world as he prepared for his "mission".

As sweet justice would have it, they now have the #1 CD in the nation, including their anti-war song "Not Ready to Make Nice" from their lead singer. It's a powerful video if you can ever see it.
Here's a 5 minute clip from their Larry king Live http://www.cnn.com/video/partners/clickability/index.html?url=/video/bestoftv/2006/05/31/larry.king.wednesday.cnn
