Convective Cores

Hi Nick

You got me - it was a teaser for any pedant (er... me) who'd recently read about how the differentiated core of Jupiter was now increasingly unlikely. Convective mixing has probably fluidised whatever settled there after formation, unlike Saturn and the Ice Giants.

Of course what you've noted is quite valid. What's interesting about the fully convective core idea is that red dwarf stars, and presumably brown dwarfs, do have convective cores, unlike our Sun and higher mass stars.

Is Jupiter a brown dwarf if it has a fully convective core?
