Hmm, censorship of the news during the Iraq War? Is that why we rarely saw any dead bodies on the newscasts? I do remember that were filled with lots of pretty explosions but very little of bloody dismembered aftermath. Interesting you should go after just one part of the self-censorship here David. I'm all in favor of the public being made fully aware of all aspects of the war including atrocities done by Saddam but also the horrific reality of dropping bombs and missiles on a populated area.
I'm also in favor of us seeing the horrific wounds on our own soldiers so that American people stop thinking of all of this as some detached video game. I've never seen one poster on this board who's stated they believe Saddam to be some saint and I don't think anyone would've felt the least bit sorry if he'd been blown to bits by one of the first bomb blasts.
I somehow doubt that CNN had anything but the best of intentions by withholding the information mentioned just as the various news outlets in the country gave a cleaned up portrayal of the bloodshed on the ground in the war. Maybe we need less politically correct news but just be careful what you wish for. As much as news of Saddam's atrocities might have fueled the war fever, so would the bloodied civilian children images have dampened it. Let's hope in the end there was some semblance of balance.
