Suspended animation just got easier

Hi All

Some interesting news...

Slow Frozen People?

...which indicates that water can be turned directly into amorphous ice, rather than crystalline ice. Amorphous, or glassy, ice doesn't cause the cellular damage that crystalline ice causes by its expansion. Thus organs, if not whole bodies, could be frozen - slowly - and then rethawed.

Coupled with the rather gruesome news from a year ago of dogs successfully revived after 3 hours 'dead', this might allow suspended animation on deep space flights. I can imagine it'd be damned risky as there's not a lot of difference between a revivable cryonaut and a frozen corpse. Also suspended metabolism means any radiation damage will be cumulative, so shielding will be a must.
