Current Events » in reply to New details on WMD fabricator emerge

Interesting that MSNBC resurrects this one again.

Of course, Drumheller IS selling an anti-Bush book (coming out in February.)

Just for a little history on this, when this subject originally came up, about June of 2003, I decided to look into it myself.

For reference, the original CIA report from May of 2003 on the trailers is here.

The conventional wisdom now is that these trailers were used to produce hydrogen to fill balloons routinely used in artillery targeting operations.

I did some research, and found out a few things. I'd put all the links up again, but a lot of them have died off since my original posts since various military weapons companies have changed hands or been sold off since then. A newer unit is described here. and is similar in size and configuration to the older units.

---These trailers have nothing in common with any of the existing military systems currently used for this purpose. These systems are readily available on the open market, and have always been legitimate arms purchases under all the recent restrictions Saddam's Iraq was under.

---The off the shelf systems that WERE purchased by Iraq from Britain during the Thatcher era are totally different.

---Supporters of the weapons factory theory have trouble showing the exact use of the system for producing biologicals. This is readily seized on as proof of the hydrogen theory. However, in all the looking I have done, I have yet to find someone who can confidently show exactly how the same system can produce hydrogen, although a few people have given it a good try. There seems to be a lot of "leftover" stuff involved. I've always said, if someone wanted to prove the hydrogen theory, take one of these things and make hydrogen with it. It would also have been cool if someone had found an unused balloon within fifty kilometers of one of these trailers.
