Could be a shadow

The shape of the spot seems to change in a way consistent with it being projected on to the landscape. It foreshortens on a slope, spreads out to a circle on (what I think is) flat ground.

But that sharp left turn? Weird. The ESA notes say that the spacecraft was rolling while tracking, but how would that change the projection of the shadow on to the surface? I'm out of ideas.
