"Thousands of scientists, many of whom have no government funding interests, have warned of the DANGER TO CIVILIZATION and the potential DEATHS OF BILLIONS from a global warming disaster. "
Nonsense, you being an alarmist, to say it mildly. Global warming has not killed one human to date. Gore doesn't even make the silly claim that thousands of scientists support his view- his assembed group of crackpots are a few dozen. And how many scientists do think are living in this world? Even if 10,000 held this view it would still be a tiny minority, but far fewer would support what you claim above. I would be very interested to hear anyone who could support your claim. They could start by giving a cause and some idea of in what time period they would expect this danger- such as "any moment", within decades, or within centuries.
In relation to last several 100 million years, earth global temperature is far cooler than at other times, and in very recent times, we were coming out of the Little Ice Age. If the global temperature had not risen- if we were instead 1 C cooler, we would still be in this Little Ice age. In time frame of tens of thousands of years, we are definitely in a relatively long period of Warming. So hundreds of thousands of scientists probably agree that we are in a long period of global warming.
"You are insane.
Have you considered the consequences of being wrong about this?"
The only way to lower CO2 to any significant degree is use nuclear power- without existance of current nuclear reactors we would be easily adding an addition 2 billion tonnes of CO2 per year to our atmosphere- this is more than what all cars being driven in the US add to atmosphere per year. 2 billion tons of CO2 per year is more than global cement production adds per year.
Since the peak global temperature in 1998, global temperature has been flat or declining. During the period of time Gore was Vice President and Clinton was president, as according to this chart:
The apparent trend during Gore term could be seen to be somewhat alarming. During this time, Gore and Clinton did nothing to encourage the construction of more nuclear power plants.
I happen to support the use of more nuclear power- not solely because the reduction of CO2 emission, but because it could be a cheaper way of providing power, it's cleaner in terms real pollutants, and it's safer.
As far as the moment, 2006, there is nothing that indicates that there any accelerated global temperature. Sea levels don't indicate this, measurement global CO2 doesn't indicate this, nor does global measurement of temperature.
In next Century I think it's possible that Global temperature could rise by .5 C or could lower by .2 C, either of these would not be unexpected nor alarming. If instead global temperature in next 100 years were to rise by 1 C, this would not be a danger to civilization nor kill billions of people- it wouldn't killion millions, or thousands, nor even one person.
Now, suppose global temperature was to rise by 1 C in the next decade, this wouldn't be a danger to civilization nor kill anyone- though it would be alarming; if this were to happen we would need to get serious about taking steps which could lower the temperature. And since CO2 *might* be reason for such as HUGE rise of temperature in a short period of time and if we wanted reduce CO2 emission we would *need* to do crash program in building nuclear reactor and if really desperate at same time do rolling blackouts in which most the power was supplied by the Nuclear powerplants and those plants which use natural gas. But let's suppose global temperature were to rise 1 C in next decade and 3 C in next decade [there is NOTHING that indicates this is going to happen] in those 2 decades sea level rise might increase by say 5 cm per decade, but no one would die from this. Even in this situation, you aren't going to get increased storm activity, nor significantly warmer summers. What you would get is significantly warmer winters and a frostline that gallops poleward. People living in the equator aren't going to notice anything, but Canadians are going warmer weather.
Though a Canadian could notice a bigger difference between living in urban area as compared to living in rural area.
