One of the keys to electrical power is transmission, and the losses created by normal resistance when power is moved for long distances across power lines. This is significant.
Any new technology that would permit moving power across greater distances would make building alternative energy plants in remote locations much more feasible. I have wondered about the tech required for hydrogen pipelines.
