Well its more of a curiosity to me than anything I could put into practice. I don't own a boat and live in a landlocked state. However I do like to backpack and after reading the accounts of Lewis And Clark and how they calculated their position on an unmapped continent using similar techniques it has piqued my interest. Granted, I don't normally backpack far enough to need more than two 7.5 minute USGS maps for the area I'm in, but the methods of the old explorers do interest me. I find myself trying to learn a little about everything, but my interests are so diverse that I don't have the time to do more than just skim the surface with any of them.
