AstroAlert: Pleiades graze zone info., & Alcyone s.e. of St. Louis?

Message to Wayne Clark, St. Louis (but with advice for all
Pleiades graze observers):

Wayne,

Are you going to try to observe the spectacular Alcyone graze
southeast of St. Louis tomorrow morning? If so, you may be able
to observe with Bob Sandy, who might try it in that area (probably
best across the river in Illinois where it should be easier to
find observing sites in rural areas using the interactive maps
on Derek Breit's Web site noted in my earlier messages). The
weather forecast looks best for that area, and considerably worse
farther northeast in Illinois, n.w. Indiana, & Michigan.

The weather may be better than the earlier forecast indicated
in the Washington, DC region, so contact Jose Guzman if you might
be interested in trying one of the grazes in the area. But the
better area weatherwise should be s.w. Ohio, which is where Wayne
Warren, Hal Povenmire, & I will try to observe the 24 Tauri graze,
somewhere between Cincinnati and Columbus, leaving by noon EDT.

P.S. On the detailed maps on Derek Breit's interactive google-maps
Web site, he gives all the ranges from 1.0 to 2.0 km south of the
limit lines. But the profiles that I've seen all extend farther
north, with at least a short occultation probably visible even
at the northern limit line (green on his plots). However, his
plots are for sea level, so most areas with elevations around
1000 ft. will shift the path about 0.2 mile to the southeast,
so the range I would use for all grazes, without checking the
profile in more detail, is from 0.3 km s.e. to 2.0 km s.e. of
the green line (the southern gray line is at 2.0 km so don't
go s.e. of it).
