re: An anthropic solution to everything

I personally believe that life is a random accident, but I also do not take Fermi's Paradox too seriously. Life, particularly intelligent life, is probably very rare, technology is probably even rarer, and the distances are very large; if interstellar travel is not impossible, then it is still probably very difficult. We cannot dismiss SETI because nothing has turned up in our lifetime. Our lifetime is insignificant.

But I do relish a Universe filled with unknowns. If you want certainty, get religion.
