Tom, if it's true that wacky environmentalists are calling for something monumentally stupid as you describe then you have every reason to label them as harmful to our country. After reading ER's post below, I really don't know who's behind it and, to tell you the truth, I don't care. What you're reacting to is extremism and all my friends, both liberal and conservative, feel exactly the same about extremists.
It just blows me away though that your outrage is always directed towards just one side of the card. The only time the hair seems to stand up on the back of your head over abuse of power is if it occurs on what would be generally thought of as the left of center. We've continually given you examples of horrific proposals and actions by the extreme right wackos and you disparage us for being conspiracy nuts and come to their defense. Hate to see extremism but it's a guilty pleasure to see you affected by it.
I think draining a major reservoir as has been proposed for a lake (It's been proposed for the massive Lake Powell) just so people can see old submerged areas restored to their former "glory" is patently absurd. Now, if they could scientifically prove the added water weight was triggering devestating earthquakes in the area, I'd be in line behind them.
We had a particularly dry era in recent years and the huge Roosevelt Lake receded substantially enough to expose large swampy areas. This stupid-ass bird called the Snail Darter decided to take up nests in the new mud and of course, because of its stupidity, the darn bird is endangered. When rains finally came and they began filling the lake back up (which helps supply the Phoenix valley with water), some radical environmentalists decided the birds were in danger and the filling had to stop. Eventually logic won out although I think there were people actually physically relocating the birds before the water got to them. I always assumed they'd pack up on their own once the water slowly crept towards them but, if they didn't, I'd say they were a prime candidate for natural selection.
Extremism is bad Tom. One of these days I hope you'll stop picking and choosing which one you turn a blind eye to.
