some advertisers put together really clever commercials, amusing, beautiful, even inspiring, but it seems the more you admire the commercial, the less likely you are to remember the name of the product. Its the really annoying, even insulting ones like the one I mention above, that you associate with a brand name and remember. Fortunately, I don't rely on TV to inform me on the relative merits of cholesterol medication. That's why I have a doctor.
I'm wondering if saturation with advertising has led to the dilution of its effectiveness. People not only tune them out, either mentally or mechanically, or they simply refuse to believe them. And we are now so visually sophisticated we are all learning to recognize when we're being conned with pretty pictures, pretty girls, or earnest-sounding dignified dudes speaking in pear-shaped tones. Hell, we've been exposed to this all our lives, we've figured it out by now..
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if extensive research hasn't already been done on the increasing ineffectiveness of advertising, and although this knowledge is widespread among the ad agencies, they are doing everything they can to hide it from their customers.
