Wormholes are not FTL

Hi

Hamilton's book is quite readable and his Future History is worked out in exquisite detail. One thing with wormholes is that they merely shorten the light travel path between points in 4-space - at no time are any paths allowed by a wormhole FTL. You might think they are, but only by comparing two entirely different 4-space trajectories.

A major issue unanswered by physics or SF is whether 4-space is folded over in the higher dimension sufficiently to allow 'short' paths through space. No one knows, so real wormhole path lengths might be incredibly long.

The current best guess at 'FTL' is something like Heim Theory's higher spaces in which the limiting speed, c', is higher than our current c.
