I think the non space obsessed general public already thinks that there are plenty of Earth like planets. A discovery would be a 7 day wonder. Lack of hi-res photos (q.v. Kepler data) would make it booring. Me, I can't wait. We really know nothing about solar systems except those with hot fat Jovians up close. We now DO know that planets DO tend to form, which was believed but not known until the mid 90s.
