re: And it just gets worse

Even the British, who have done more than any nation to support the US are wavering. The outgoing ambassador to Iraq (see below) is clear that the most likely outcome in Iraq is full blown civil war and disintegration along ethnic lines. What this means in real terms is a border war between Turkey and the Kurds (rand emember that Turkey is a member of NATO); a Sunni nation in the middle breeding yet more trouble, and a Shia contry in the South (i.e. a de facto extension of the Iranian state). If we are to guarantee access to Iraq oil this is not good news.

And please don’t tell me this guy is a liberal;

From the article
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5240808.stm

“Civil war is a more likely outcome in Iraq than democracy, Britain's outgoing ambassador in Baghdad has warned Tony Blair in a confidential memo.
William Patey, who left the Iraqi capital last week, also predicted the break-up of Iraq along ethnic lines.
He did also say that "the position is not hopeless" - but said it would be "messy" for five to 10 years.”
