It’s been obvious for years that Donald Rumsfeld is in denial of reality, but the defense secretary now also seems stuck in a time warp. You could practically hear the dominoes falling as he told the Senate Armed Services Committee yesterday that it was dangerous for Americans to even talk about how to end the war in Iraq.

One word comes to mind: "quagmire." Of course the most disconcerting comment Rumsfeld made yesterday was assertion that we now have to worry about protecting Spain from Muslim occupation. And here I thought bringing "democracy" in Iraq would remake the Middle East. Instead it appears to be remaking Europe and the rest of the world.
We have incompetent buffoons running this nation. The awful consequences of their bumbling will dog the best interests of the people of this nation for decades.
