Fascinating comments on the ever-present technology we now take for granted.
As I work in the Marine Industry I’ve become very well acquainted with GPS, it’s both a blessing and bane at the same time. While it offers precision navigation beyond even the wildest dreams of any pilot just a few years ago it has a downside. Most newer boat operators in recreational use have no idea how to navigate without it. When their GPS unit decides to give it up they’re so lost they can’t find their .. knee ... with both hands.
In a larger sense, it also illustrates the pervasive intrusion of tech into our daily lives. Both public and private. The web that has begun to infiltrate every action we take, from the charge card swipe when we pay for lunch to the utility bills that show up every month. The numerous databases tat keep track of us. Both commercial and Governmental.
Hmmm, fodder for another of my occasional rambling mumbles. If I ever get time to scribble one out.
