re: Mooned out
Tried last night (Sunday), in defiance of the humidity and the proximity to large cities. Totaled six in 90 minutes: one bright straw-colored that didn't come out of the radiant, two medium green ones, and three thin streaks. Then the Moon rose above the roof and pretty much shot my dark adaptation.
Cubs fans and meteor watchers: "There's always next year."
Before I went out, I used my planetarium software to help a friend in Fairbanks, Alaska know where to look, after asking her if it gets dark at all this soon after the solstice, and if so, when. Perseus is a true circumpolar that far north... and at 1:00 am local (the time she gave me) the sun was 10 degrees below the northern horizon.
